3. Paris - For all cliches, romance, student uprising, artists etc.
4. Barcelona - Sagrada Família and La Rambla
5. Edinburgh - Try the whisky heritage museum, brilliant.
6. Athens - Dirty, noisy, mayhem, and ancient. Everything a city should be.
7. Glasgow - Still a bit more edgy than its highbrow neighbor.
8. Liverpool - The Beatles, Albert Dock and a club in a house.
9. Manchester - Gave us the Stone Roses.
10.Vienna - The big wheel from the Third Man.

Salzburg, interesting choice. I spent about an hour there once on the way to a wedding. Did look like quite an interesting place. Never been to York or Durham. Must get out more!

I've visited five of the cities on your list and was most disappointed with Edinburgh. I'd include Salzburg, York and Durham on my list.
